Writing Habits
I am getting into the regime where I need to start thinking about the writing process of my dissertation. Yes, there’s still the oral exam, and that small issue of having a secure funding source, but the point is, I will be writing something ten times longer than anything I’ve ever put together in my entire life.
So, when I came across this article about how professionals write, I found the advice rather useful. I think the primary message is that they schedule their writing so that nothing interrupts their train of thought when they are creating. The isolation keeps people from distracting them, and writing in the morning means that they haven’t cluttered their thoughts with other things like what happened during that meeting in the morning or I gotta take the car to the shop soon or whatever else can keep you from focusing purely on writing writing writing.
I like this advice, and would not be surprised if I took it to heart in a year and a half or so when it’s time to get writing myself.
